KurzarbeitKurzarbeit is the term used to describe a shorter working week made necessary by a lack of work. It has been introduced in recent years as a preferable alternative to redundancy. It has to be approved by the Arbeitsamt, the job centre, which pays some compensation to the worker for loss of pay.
