ARDThe ARD (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten der Bundesrepublik Deutschland) is the name of the German broadcasting corporation founded as a result of several mergers after 1945. It is financed by licence fees and advertising and transmits the First Programme nationwide as well as the Third and other regional programmes. News and educational programmes make up about a third of its transmissions.
